GWF has been building women’s confidence, skills, and networks for over 40 years.
Our programmes run throughout the year and are open to members and, where noted, the wider community.
Girls in STEM Camp
GWF believes the pipeline starts young. Since 2019, GWF has run the Girls in STEM Camp — a free, multi-day programme for girls aged 6–13 to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through live experiments, real-world problem-solving, and career talks by women working in STEM fields. Every camp is free. Every girl is welcome.
Camp 1
April–May 2019 (Suva, in-person)
GWF launched Fiji’s first-ever Girls in STEM Camp — a 4-day programme at the Fiji Club in Suva, funded by the Women’s Fund Fiji and delivered in partnership with world-renowned engineer and Nanogirl Labs founder Dr Michelle Dickinson (New Zealand) and ANU Science Circus Pacific. Five local professional women in STEM were trained as camp instructors, with a further 14 women studying STEM at FNU and USP trained in a follow-up session. Thirty girls from socio-economically disadvantaged urban settlements in Suva attended. They graduated at the Grand Pacific Hotel — where, for many, the highlight was meeting Fiji’s first female pilot. Over 200 families had applied for 30 places.
Camp 2
July 2022 (Western Division, fully virtual)
Funded by the Government of Canada and delivered in partnership with FNU, GWF took the camp beyond Suva for the first time — reaching 54 girls in Ba, Nadi, and Lautoka through a fully virtual 4-day programme. Because no girl should be left out due to geography, GWF delivered a tablet, pocket Wi-Fi, and all experimental materials directly to each participant’s home. Two simultaneous Zoom sessions ran daily – Ba girls in the morning, Nadi and Lautoka in the afternoon, with parents and guardians invited to participate alongside their daughters.
To date, GWF has reached over
80 girls across Fiji, completely free of charge.
Mentoring Walks
What started as one woman’s idea to share wisdom on a morning walk has become a global movement.
As a member of the Vital Voices Global Leadership Network, GWF has served as the official Flag Bearer for the Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk in Fiji every year since 2017, bringing together women leaders and aspiring leaders each International Women’s Day for an hour of walking, mentoring, and connection near Thurston Gardens in Suva. We started with 30 women in 2017, and have grown to over 100 participants in both Suva and Lautoka. No formal agenda. No boardroom pressure. Just women walking together, sharing challenges and stories, and paying forward the wisdom they’ve received.
Lunch & Learn
Our flagship midday sessions bring women together to learn, reflect, and reconnect. Hosted in Suva, these intimate gatherings feature guest speakers, facilitated discussion, and genuine connection among professional women from all fields.
Career Talks
GWF members visit female secondary school students across Fiji to share their career journeys, break down stereotypes, and show the next generation what’s possible. Our speakers come from engineering, law, medicine, business, public service, and beyond.
Networking Events
GWF believes in the power of a room full of the right women. Our networking events bring members together with diplomats, business leaders, development professionals, and fellow graduates in settings designed for genuine connection – not small talk.
A highlight of our networking calendar is our long-standing relationship with the British High Commission in Suva, which has hosted GWF members on multiple occasions for exclusive evening receptions at the High Commissioner’s residence. These evenings sit at the intersection of professional development and cross-cultural exchange – a rare space where Fiji’s graduate women connect with the UK’s diplomatic and development community.
Networking events are exclusively for GWF members.
Academic Mentoring
GWF provides ongoing mentoring support to female undergraduate students at Fiji National University and the University of the South Pacific – connecting students with experienced graduate women who offer guidance and real-world perspective at a critical stage in their studies.
